Player to watch for goal, point and/or shots on goal: Timo Meier, F, NJD (vs. COL)
The New Jersey Devils wing scored a goal on five shots on goal against the Seattle Kraken on Friday, helping them improve to 6-2-0 over their past eight games. The Devils are averaging 3.80 goals per game over their past eight games, and their power play is 12-for-26 (46.2 percent) during the span. Meier has only scored two goals over his past eight games despite a total of 33 shots on goal in the span and could be on the verge of a bounce back. Per NHL EDGE stats, Meier’s 33 shots on goal from high-danger areas rank in the 98th percentile and well above the League average (11.8). His even-strength linemates, Nico Hischier and Stefan Noesen are two of the few players that have more high-danger SOG (39 each) than Meier. The Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman is one of three players at the position to play at least 20 games and average more than a point per game (1.04; 27 in 26 games) this season. Werenski did not have a point against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday but has not had consecutive games without one since Nov. 2-9 (11 shots on goal over three-game drought). The Calgary Flames have allowed 21 goals over their past six games, including nine power-play goals. The Dallas Stars forward had a season-high six shots on goal against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday and has a total of 21 SOG over his past five games, with at least four in four of those games. Marchment plays on the second line with center Matt Duchene (leads Dallas with 28 points in 25 games) and rookie forward Logan Stankoven; the Stars, as a team, rank eighth in the NHL with an average of 30.2 shots on goal per game this season.
