Will Ferrell ref costume

Will Ferrell was ready to make the call on Thursday.

The comic actor dressed up as an NHL referee during the Los Angeles Kings game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Sitting in his season ticket seats behind the bench, Ferrell sported a black and white striped ref shirt with an NHL logo on the breast and completed his look with a black helmet.

The arena video board showed the “Anchorman” actor calling penalties from behind the glass.

Ferrell joked he helped taught two of the game's referees in an interview with FanDuel Sports Network West.

“I’ve always been in support of the NHL referees,” Ferrell said in the interview. "In fact, I trained two of the guys out here. They are two of my prize students, Brandon and Francis. They’re calling a heck of a game.”

This isn’t the first time Ferrell, a diehard Kings fan, has got in character at a game during the holiday season. Last December, he dressed up as his iconic character Buddy the Elf after a “tough holiday season.”

Safe to say, Ferrell is taking his new role very seriously.
