DETROIT -More than 50 high school journalism and media students from across Michigan will attend the Detroit Red Wings annual High School Media Day, presented by Michigan Office Solutions (MOS), on Thursday, March 23, at Joe Louis Arena. Student participants, who range from high school sophomores to seniors, will have the opportunity to experience a behind-the-scenes look into the sports and entertainment industry.

Students registered for this year's High School Media Day by submitting two essays explaining their career goals in the field of journalism and media, and detailing how a grant could support their high school journalism or media program. The essays have been evaluated by Red Wings and MOS staff, and MOS will award a total of $10,000 in grants to the journalism and media programs of the top three student essays, with the grand prize winner awarded a $5,000 grant.
"Michigan Office Solutions is honored to be a part of the Red Wings High School Media Day," said Ralph Slider, president of MOS. "For over 60 years, MOS has been committed to being a responsible corporate citizen. Through our partnership with the Detroit Red Wings, we can provide this type of unique experience as a way of giving back to communities, especially the school organizations throughout the state of Michigan."
High School Media Day will open with a Q&A session at 9:30 a.m., featuring a four-member media panel of reporters who frequently cover the Red Wings. Michigan Hockey editor Michael Caples, WXYZ-TV sports reporter Justin Rose, DetroitRedWings.com editor Dana Wakiji and the radio play-by-play voice for the Red Wings, Ken Kal, will share their personal experiences as well as offer advice on breaking into sports journalism.
Students will then tour the Joe Louis Arena press box and watch the Red Wings practice starting at 11:00 a.m. During the practice, students will view their favorite Red Wings players from some of the best seats in Joe Louis Arena. The tour and practice will be followed by lunch.
The first of four Q&A sessions following lunch will begin at 12:15 p.m. as students will have 30 minutes to ask Red Wings Head Coach Jeff Blashill questions ranging from hockey-related topics to his thoughts on sports journalism. Craig Turnbull, Olympia Entertainment senior vice president of marketing & communications, will be on hand for the second 30-minute Q&A session to discuss updates with The District Detroit and Little Caesars Arena. Students will conclude the event with Q&A sessions featuring members of the Red Wings community relations and public relations staff beginning at 1:30 p.m., and the Red Wings marketing staff at 2:00 p.m.
All student participants will also receive several Red Wings-branded journalism items, courtesy of MOS and the Detroit Red Wings.
