Senators at Flames | Recap

CALGARY -- Dylan Cozens scored the go-ahead power-play goal at 6:33 of the third period, and the Ottawa Senators extended their point streak to five games with a 4-1 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.

Brady Tkachuk dug the puck out at the left boards and sent a pass to Cozens in the slot, where he buried a wrist shot past Devin Cooley's blocker to put Ottawa up 2-1 with his fourth goal in three games.

“The boys did a great job winning the battle out there and then ‘Chucky’ made a great pass to me in front and I just tried to outwait him and it found its way in, but it was a great job by those guys in the corner,” Cozens said.

Cozens has five points (four goals, one assist) in a three-game streak.

“His game’s really taking off,” Ottawa coach Travis Green said of Cozens. “He’s still a young guy (25). I think people don’t realize how young he is. He’s still learning, but he’s playing really well right now.”

Lars Eller scored for the Senators (30-22-9), who are 3-0-2 during the streak and 7-1-2 in their past 10 games. Linus Ullmark, who is 8-0-3 in his past 11 starts, made 19 saves.

“Not the best start, but we were able to find a way, and that’s what good teams do,” Eller said. “Everybody has faith in our game, what kind of team we are and how we’re going to win games. Everybody’s committed to that. Every night I like our chances. We’re not going to win every game, but if we keep doing what we’ve got going right now, we’re going to win most of them. We’re just going to take it one game at a time, but we have a lot of belief and faith in ourselves.”

Martin Pospisil scored the lone goal for the Flames (24-30-7), who have lost four straight (0-3-1). Cooley made 33 saves.

“Really good challenge, they’re a great team,” Cooley said. “We battled hard and we were so close. Just one goal away, one good chance away, so it was a really fun challenge and a really fun game to be a part of. It was a 2-1 game and then two empty nets. We could have scored on the 6-on-5 and then win it in overtime and it’s a totally different scene.”

OTT@CGY: Eller nets equalizer on scorching one-timer

Pospisil gave Calgary a 1-0 lead at 17:04 of the first period, collecting a pass from Matvei Gridin and sending a wrist shot on net that deflected in off Ullmark's right arm. It was Pospisil's first goal of the season in his 10th game, and it came in his first game back after being a healthy scratch for the past two.

“It was a pretty tight game until the end,” Pospisil said. “We have to find a way to score some key goals. I think we have to bring way more energy. It’s not the way we want to play. We have a tough schedule, lots of games, so we have to turn around and we have to get better.”

Eller tied it 1-1 at 9:35 of the second period when he one-timed a Ridly Greig cross-ice feed to the glove side from the top of the right face-off circle.

“A lot of times it’s about just doing all the work that leads to getting those looks,” Eller said. “Some games you’re not getting the looks at all, so it’s nice. Sometimes you only get [good chances] once a game and tonight I got one in a good spot and it was just, ‘Let it go’ and good to see it get in.”

Tim Stutzle scored a short-handed, empty-net goal at 17:59 of the third period to make it 3-1, and Shane Pinto also scored into an empty net at 19:46 for the 4-1 final.

“I had a lot of looks,” Stutzle said. “Their goalie made some great saves. You’ve got to give him credit and I’ve just got to find a way to put those in, but it was a big win. Huge team effort. I think in the second and third everybody played great and those are big points for us.”

NOTES: Stutzle extended his point streak to 11 games (seven goals, eight assists). He also became the first Senators player to record multiple 11-game point streaks in a single season after his 13-game run from Dec. 9, 2025 – Jan. 5, 2026. ... Ottawa forward David Perron was traded to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. He has 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 49 games this season.
