NHL Status Report: Schwartz out indefinitely for Kraken with upper-body injury

Seattle Kraken

Jaden Schwartz is out indefinitely because of an upper-body injury, the Kraken announced Monday. The forward left a 7-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday with 45 seconds left in the first period; his face was hit by Nick Cousins’ skate after Eeli Tolvanen hit Cousins into the boards. Seattle coach Lane Lambert said after the game that Schwartz was being evaluated. “It could have been worse, I guess,” Lambert said. Schwartz has 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) in 42 games for the Kraken (29-24-9), who host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday (10 p.m. ET; FDSNSO, KHN/Prime, KONG). They are one point ahead of the San Jose Sharks for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.

Ottawa Senators

Jake Sanderson is week to week because of an upper-body injury, Senators coach Travis Green said before their game at the Vancouver Canucks on Monday (9 p.m. ET; RDS, Prime). The defenseman, who won the gold medal with Team USA last month at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, left in the second period of a 7-4 win against the Kraken on Saturday after a hit into the boards from Brandon Montour. Sanderson, who will be replaced by defenseman Nikolas Matinpalo on Monday, leads Ottawa defensemen in goals (11), assists (37), points (48) and time on ice per game (24:49) in 62 games this season. “He’s a big piece for sure,” Green said. “He's an important player for our team, obviously, but like we always do, next man up.” The Senators (31-22-9) trail the Boston Bruins by five points for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

Philadelphia Flyers

Travis Konecny and Nick Seeler participated in an optional morning skate and will each be a game-time decision for the Flyers against the New York Rangers on Monday (7 p.m. ET; MSGSN, NBCSP+, TVAS). Konecny has missed the past three games because of an upper-body injury, but the forward, who leads Philadelphia with 23 goals and 57 points in 58 games, was a full participant at practice Sunday. Seeler has missed two games because of a lower-body injury sustained during the second period of a 3-2 shootout win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 2. The defenseman also was a full participant in practice, but coach Rick Tocchet said Monday morning that Konecny was closer to playing than Seeler. ... Forward Garnet Hathaway missed practice Sunday because of an illness.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Dante Fabbro could return from a lower-body injury against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday (4 p.m. ET; FDSNOH, FDSNW). The Blue Jackets defenseman practiced Sunday after missing two games. Fabbro has nine points (four goals, five assists) in 54 games this season. … Forwards Sean Monahan and Charlie Coyle did not practice (maintenance) but are expected to play.

Calgary Flames

Zach Whitecloud (upper body) is not with the Flames for the start of a five-game road trip Monday at the Washington Capitals (7 p.m. ET; MNMT, SNW). The defenseman was injured Saturday when he fell awkwardly into the boards late in the first period of a 5-4 win against the Carolina Hurricanes. Calgary coach Ryan Huska said after the game that Whitecloud, who has four assists in 14 games since being acquired by the Flames in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 18, was day to day.

Chicago Blackhawks

Spencer Knight is out with an illness for the Blackhawks when they host the Utah Mammoth on Monday (8:30 p.m. ET; Utah16, CHSN). The goalie did not travel for a 4-3 overtime loss at the Dallas Stars on Sunday and was also unavailable for a 6-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday. Drew Commesso, who was recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Saturday, is likely to start in goal against Utah. … Oliver Moore (lower body) also won’t play Monday; coach Jeff Blashill didn’t have a further update on the forward’s long-term status. Moore left the game Sunday in the first period after being injured in a collision behind the net with Stars forward Colin Blackwell.

New York Rangers

Taylor Raddysh will miss the Rangers’ next two games, starting Monday against the Flyers (7 p.m. ET; MSGSN, NBCSP+, TVAS). The forward is away from the team for his father’s funeral. Raddysh has 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) in 59 games this season. Forward Brendan Brisson was recalled from Hartford of the AHL.

Dallas Stars

Roope Hintz (lower body) is expected to be out for “a couple weeks,” Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. The forward left a 5-4 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday late in the second period after he was injured during a battle along the boards with Nathan MacKinnon. Hintz did not put any weight on his left leg as he was helped off the ice by a teammate and a team trainer. Hintz was playing his first game since missing four because of an illness. "We don't know exactly how much, but it's not a couple of days, so we'll see how long that is,” Gulutzan said. “… We're hoping [he returns] before the playoffs." Hintz has 44 points (15 goals, 29 assists) in 53 games this season.
