TUE. JAN. 21
Potential win: New York Rangers (vs. OTT)
The Rangers are showing signs of improvement this month, going 6-1-3 in 10 games; they are quietly tied with the Washington Capitals for the most points (15) in the League in January. New York is 3-0-1 at home over that span, including a 1-0 shutout against the high-scoring Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Goalie Igor Shesterkin stopped all 27 shots faced in the win against Columbus and looks to have regained his elite form (4-0-1, .934 save percentage) since returning from injury. The Rangers still have ground to make up in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race but performed well against the Senators on Nov. 1 with a 2-1 home win; Shesterkin stopped 40 of 41 shots faced in the victory. Per NHL EDGE stats, Shesterkin leads the League in high-danger saves (219) this season. -- Pete Jensen
Chance at fewest goals allowed: Nashville Predators (vs. SJS)
The Predators have won three straight games for the first time since October. Coming off two days of rest, they host the San Jose Sharks, who will conclude their five-game road trip on the second leg of a back-to-back set (lost 6-3 at Boston Bruins on Monday). In seven games this month, the Predators have allowed 17 goals, tied for the fourth fewest in the NHL over that span. Goalie Juuse Saros has allowed two or fewer goals in consecutive games, and his .937 save percentage in 15 career games against the Sharks is his second-highest against a single opponent (minimum two games). Saros has four shutouts this season, three coming at home, and, per NHL EDGE stats, is among the leaders in high-danger saves (213; third) and midrange saves (234; seventh). -- Troy Perlowitz
Chance at most saves: Anaheim Ducks (vs. FLA)
The Anaheim Ducks are tied for the most shots on goal allowed per game (32.2); they allowed 44 SOG at the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Anaheim goalie John Gibson made 42 saves in the first leg of the home-and-home set with Florida, marking the fifth time this season that a Ducks goalie made at least 40 saves in a game. Lukas Dostal is expected to get the start for Anaheim; he has 67 saves over his past two games and at least 30 saves in 13 of his 26 starts this season. The Panthers rank third in SOG per game (31.2) and have the League's highest average in the category since Nov. 2 (31.6). Per NHL EDGE stats, Dostal ranks fifth in high-danger saves (207), fourth in high-danger shots faced (252) and is tied with Gibson for ninth in midrange save percentage (.905). -- Chris Meaney
