Rangers at Red Wings | Recap

DETROIT –- Jonathan Quick made 37 saves for the New York Rangers in a 4-0 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday.

Quick’s shutout was the 61st of his NHL career and gave him at least one shutout in 17 straight seasons, the sixth-longest streak in League history.

“I didn’t know that, but I guess it shows I’ve had a good team in front of me for the last 17 seasons,” Quick said. “Getting a shutout is never just down to the goalie – you need a lot of help from your teammates.”

Martin Brodeur holds the record with a shutout in 21 straight seasons (1993-94 to 2014-15). Quick also trails Marc-Andre Fleury (20), Terry Sawchuk (19), Roberto Luongo (19) and Patrick Roy (18).

“You couldn’t have the kind of success he has had in his career without an incredible work ethic,” Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said. “We weren’t good enough tonight, but he got us two points.”

Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist, and Adam Fox had two assists for the Rangers (9-3-1), who have defeated the Red Wings three times this season by a combined score of 9-3.

Ville Husso, making his first start since Oct. 10, made 20 saves for Detroit (6-7-1), which lost 3-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

“I don’t know if I’ve been in a more frustrating hockey game, and I’ve been coaching for 30 years,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. “We could be sitting here with an 8-1 win, and we lost 4-0.”

Chris Kreider gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 13:13 of the first period, scoring seven seconds into the game’s first power-play opportunity when he tipped Fox’s shot under Husso.

“I think they had us back on our heels a bit at the start of the game, but (Quick) kept us in it,” Kreider said.

Patrick Kane and Dylan Larkin each hit the post in the second period, but the Rangers broke the game open with two goals in 48 seconds.

Jimmy Vesey made it 2-0 at 16:52 with a one-timer in front off Sam Carrick’s pass from below the goal line, then Panarin increased the margin to 3-0 at 17:40, beating Husso with a snap shot from below the right circle.

“Throughout the season, you are going to have games like this,” Kane said. “We created a lot tonight. Obviously you have to find a way to produce and get the puck past the goalie, but we have to be happy with what we created.”

NYR@DET: Panarin and Zibanejad combine for a 3-0 lead

The Red Wings outshot New York 19-8 in the second period.

“I thought we fed them the puck too many times in that period,” Laviolette said. “I think the third was our only good period.”

Reilly Smith scored an empty-net goal for the 4-0 final at 16:17 of the third period.
