Player to watch for a point and/or SOG: Brady Tkachuk, F, USA (vs. CAN)

The United States wing, who plays for the Ottawa Senators, scored two goals on five shots on goal in his first game at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Tkachuk led the U.S. in shot attempts at 5-on-5 (nine) and hits (eight) in their 6-1 win against Finland and was promoted to the top line with his brother Matthew Tkachuk, who led the country with three points (two goals, one assist), eight shots on goal and five high-danger SOG, and center Jack Eichel, who led the U.S. with two assists. The Tkachuk brothers combined for four goals, five points, 13 shots, 18 shot attempts and 11 hits against Finland. Tkachuk leads Ottawa in goals (21) and the entire NHL in SOG (234) in 56 games this season. Per NHL EDGE stats, Tkachuk ranks fourth in high-danger shots on goal (80), third in midrange SOG (77) and is tied for fourth among forwards in long-range SOG (26). The Canada forward, who plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins, led them with three assists in his first game at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Crosby had a primary assist at 5-on-5, on the power play, and on the overtime winning goal at 3-on-3 against Sweden. Crosby is tied with defenseman Zach Werenski and wing Matthew Tkachuk of the U.S for the tournament lead in points (three). Crosby has 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in his past 26 games for Canada and hasn’t lost a game representing the country since 2010. At 37-years-old, Crosby is the oldest player participating at the 4 Nations Face-Off and per NHL EDGE stats, he is among the leaders this NHL season in skating distance (181.77 miles; 97th percentile) and high-danger shots (59; 96th percentile). Crosby is playing on a line with center Nathan MacKinnonand wing Mark Stone, who both scored in Canada's first game.

Player to watch for a point and/or SOG: Adrian Kempe, F, SWE (vs. FIN)

The Sweden wing, who plays for the Los Angeles Kings, scored a goal, led them with five shots and finished second on the team in shot attempts at 5-on-5 (seven) in his first game at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Kempe is tied for 14th in goals (25) and ranks 19th among forwards in SOG (163) this season. Per NHL EDGE stats, Kempe ranked second on Sweden in top skating speed (21.98 mph) and second among forwards in top shot speed (85.67 mph) in his first game. Kempe is among the leaders this NHL season in speed bursts over 20 mph (172; 97th percentile), top skating speed (23.26 mph; 94th percentile), skating distance (167.53 miles; 92nd percentile) and top shot speed (92.27 mph; 90th percentile). He also ranks highly in midrange shots (58; 95th percentile), midrange goals (eight; 93rd percentile), high-danger goals (11; 90th percentile) and is third among forwards in long-range shots (26). The Sweden forward had three shots on goal in the 4 Nations Face-Off opener against Canada, including two from high-danger areas to lead his country in that category. Rakell is playing on a potent line with elite wing William Nylander (led Sweden with nine shot attempts at 5-on-5 in opener) and center Mika Zibanejad and also the second power play with defenseman Erik Karlsson, forwards Filip Forsberg, Jesper Bratt and Elias Pettersson. Rakell is having a bounce-back season for the Pittsburgh Penguins; he leads them in goals (25) and has their second-most shots on goal (146) behind elite linemate Sidney Crosby (156).
