Story of the Day

The line of Alex Ovechkin, Dylan Strome and Aliaksei Protas accounted for two of Washington’s three goals in last night’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, both of which came at five-on-five. The Capitals have outscored the opposition 15-5 at five-on-five with the trio on the ice this season. Ovechkin, Strome and Protas’ 15 goals for are tied for the most by a line in the NHL, joined by Vegas’ Ivan Barbashev, Jack Eichel and Mark Stone (15 goals for, 8 goals against), while their plus-10 on-ice goal differential is the highest in the League (per MoneyPuck.com).

Protas recorded his fourth multi-point game (1g, 1a) of the season on Wednesday and skated a season-high 17:28. Ovechkin (1a) and Strome (1g) each registered a point and continue to lead the Capitals in scoring (Strome: 5g-18a–23p in 15 GP; Ovechkin: 10g-9a–19p in 15 GP).
