DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings today assigned right wing Tomas Jurco to the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins for conditioning.
Jurco, 23, has missed the entire 2016-17 season so far due to offseason back surgery. The fifth-year pro has skated in 143 games for the Red Wings since making his NHL debut in 2013-14, recording 39 points (15-24-39) and 44 penalty minutes. He was limited to 44 games for Detroit in 2015-16, logging six points (4-2-6). Jurco also skated in a five-game conditioning stint for Grand Rapids last season and racked up nine points (5-4-9), earning AHL Player of the Week honors on Nov. 22, 2015. He has appeared in 111 career games with the Griffins, tallying 69 points (32-37-69) and 40 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 188-lb., forward has also picked up 21 points (13-8-21) in 32 career AHL Calder Cup Playoff games and owns a Calder Cup championship ring from the Griffins' title run in 2013.
