McIsaac, 18, was a second-round pick (36th overall) of the Red Wings at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, which was held from June 22-23 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. McIsaac spent the 2017-18 campaign with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he led his team's defensemen and finished seventh overall on the team with 47 points (9-38-47) in 65 games, which also tied for 10th among all QMJHL defensemen. In two seasons with Halifax, the 6-foot-1, 193-pound blueliner has compiled 79 points (13-66-79), a plus-21 rating and 146 penalty minutes in 124 games played. He was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team and was the league's defensive rookie of the year (Raymond Lagace Trophy) in his first season with the club. He is currently back with the Mooseheads after attending the Red Wings' Development Camp following the Entry Draft in June and the 2018 NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., earlier this month, which was shortened by a shoulder injury.
A native of Truro, Nova Scotia, McIsaac already has extensive experience playing for Hockey Canada. In 2017-18, he served as an alternate captain at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship, contributing three points (1-2-3), a plus-five rating and four penalty minutes in five games and was named a top-three player on the team. Earlier in the season, he won a gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament after chipping in three points (1-2-3) in five games. During the 2016-17 campaign, he participated in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the World Under-18 Championship. He also participated in the World Junior Summer Showcase, which was held from July 28-Aug. 4 in Kamloops, British Columbia, marking the first opportunity for players to compete for spots on their national under-20 teams which will head to Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship this season.
