Sproul assigned to Griffins

Roster stands at 22 two days before season opener

DETROIT -The Detroit Red Wings today assigned defenseman Ryan Sproul to the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins. Additionally, the Red Wings recalled Matt Lorito from the Griffins and placed him on non-roster injured reserve.

The Red Wings' 22-man roster includes 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders. The Red Wings will open the season on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Minnesota Wild for the first-ever regular-season game at Little Caesars Arena.
