DETROIT- The Detroit Red Wings today recalled right wing
Martin Frk
and defenseman
Jake Chelios
from the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions.

Frk was also recalled under emergency conditions by Detroit on Wednesday under but returned to Grand Rapids on Thursday. The 25-year-old has split the 2018-19 season between Detroit and Grand Rapids. In 25 games with the Red Wings, he has recorded five points (1-4-5) and two penalty minutes. Since joining the Griffins on Feb. 14, Frk has totaled 13 points (4-9-13), a plus-12 rating and six penalty minutes in 10 games and ranks third in the AHL with a 1.30 point-per-game average (among players with five-or-more games played). The sixth-year pro has appeared in 95 NHL games with Carolina and Detroit since 2016-17, posting 30 points (12-18-30) and 16 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 224 games for Grand Rapids since 2013-14, showing 131 points (67-64-131) and 191 penalty minutes. Frk also has 21 points (6-15-21) and 22 penalty minutes in 26 career AHL playoff games and helped the Griffins win the 2017 Calder Cup championship after scoring the game-winning goal in the team's series-deciding Game 6 win against Syracuse.
Originally drafted by the Red Wings in the second round (49th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Frk spent three seasons (2010-13) with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax Mooseheads prior to turning pro. In 152 games with Halifax, he logged 163 points (73-90-163) and 200 penalty minutes and won a QMJHL championship and CHL Memorial Cup championship in 2012-13. The Pelhrimov, Czech Republic, native has also represented his country internationally on several occasions, combining for 10 points (6-4-10) in 12 games at the 2011 and 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships and 12 points (3-9-12) at the 2010 and 2011 IIHF World Under-18 Championships.
Chelios, 28, has appeared in 59 games for the Griffins this season, logging 14 points (1-13-14), a plus-17 rating and 22 penalty minutes. He is tied for third among Griffins defensemen in scoring and ranks second overall on the club in plus-minus. Chelios has appeared in 294 career AHL games between the Chicago Wolves, Charlotte Checkers and Griffins, totaling 107 points (17-90-107) and 197 penalty minutes since turning pro during the 2013-14 season. The Chicago native posted his most productive AHL season with Charlotte in 2016-17, notching 32 points (4-28-32) in 76 games while serving as one of the team's alternate captains.
The son of former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios and a free agent signee by Detroit on July 1, 2018, Chelios also tallied five points (2-3-5) in 15 games over two ECHL stints with the Toledo Walleye and Kalamazoo Wings between 2013-15. The sixth-year pro graduated from Michigan State University prior to turning pro, totaling 54 points (17-37-54) and 195 penalty minutes in 154 games from the Spartans from 2010-14. He was an All-Big Ten honorable mention as a senior after leading Michigan State's defensemen in scoring and winning the team's most-outstanding defensive player award. Chelios is also a product of the Little Caesars AAA Hockey Club and spent one seasons with the United States Hockey League's Chicago Steel, where he posted 34 points (12-22-34) in 52 games during the 2009-10 campaign.
