Ovi jr skates mites on ice

Alex Ovechkin got to watch another “Great 8” tear up the ice on Wednesday.

The Washington Capitals captain cheered on his son, Sergei, while the 8-year-old skated in “Mites on Ice” during an intermission of the team’s game against the Dallas Stars at Capital One Arena.

Sporting his dad’s No. 8 jersey, Sergei showed off his skills skating up and down his dad’s home ice.

Ovechkin gave the future star a thumbs up as he watched alongside teammate John Carlson from the Capitals bench.

After finishing up on the ice, Sergei made it back to his seats behind the glass and watched the Capitals star score his 915th NHL goal. He gave his dad a fist bump behind the glass in celebration.

Ovechkin spoke about the experience of watching his son after the game.

"It's great," Ovechkin said. "He was nervous, and it's a great day for him."

Only a few more years until Sergei can start chasing his dad’s NHL record.
