      SEA at VAN | Recap

VANCOUVER -- Joey Daccord made 24 saves for the Seattle Kraken in a 5-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Wednesday.

Andre Burakovsky had a goal and assist, and Jared McCann had three assists for the Kraken (32-38-6), who won for the second time in seven games (2-4-1).

“I always say a shutout is a team result,” Daccord said. “Goalie is going to make saves every game, but when the guys do an amazing job like they did tonight, blocking shots, keeping guys to the outside, eliminating the grade-As, it makes my life a lot easier. They do a good job getting a lot of traffic in front of the net so sometimes you need a block and we got them tonight, so it was fun to watch.”

SEA@VAN: Daccord records 24-save shutout in win vs. Canucks

Thatcher Demko made 14 saves for the Canucks (34-28-13), who have lost three games in a row and five of their past seven (2-3-2). Vancouver sits eight points behind the St. Louis Blues for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference with one game in hand.

“I saw a lot of nervousness,” Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said. “You need some poise. I didn't think we had poise. Then they got a couple of quick goals on us, so you could see guys were getting nervous, chasing the game.”

Seattle has already been eliminated from postseason contention but got up for a game against a Pacific Division rival trying desperately to keep their chances alive.

“Obviously, it [stinks] that we're not the ones fighting for the playoff spot,” said Kraken forward Shane Wright, who scored. “But anytime you can take out a division rival in a game important for them, it always feels good, for sure.”

It was the second shutout this season and fifth in the NHL for Daccord, who made his best save on a short-handed chance at 14:49 of the first period to keep it scoreless. He pushed off his right post to glove a high one-timer from Drew O'Connor inside the right face-off dot after a pass from Conor Garland.

“Garland made a really good play and drew some guys in and then made a really nice pass to that guy back door and just tried to get over and be big and sometimes those go in, and sometimes you make a save, and that one found a way into my glove, which was great,” Daccord said.

Michael Eyssimont put Seattle ahead 1-0 at 16:42. After Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk turned the puck over in the neutral zone, Eyssimont cut around defenseman Filip Hronek at the blue line and won a race into the zone before firing a quick shot from the left hash mark between Demko’s legs.

“That was an unbelievable play, unbelievable goal,” Wright said. “He was flying all night. His legs were going and gave us a lot of energy and had a strong game.”

SEA@VAN: Eyssimont races in and fires it home

Chandler Stephenson made it 2-0 on a 3-on-2 at 9:49 of the second period, taking a cross-ice pass from Burakovsky and skating down below the left face-off dot before shooting far side over Demko’s glove as he dropped into the post.

Wright, 21, scored his 18th goal of the season over Demko’s glove from the left dot after taking a drop pass from McCann off the rush to make it 3-0 at 16:00.

“I'm just trying to look for open space,” Wright said. “He kind of slid a little bit to the strong side post, opened up that far side and was able to find a spot.”

McCann, who moved from center to the wing on a new line, then set up Burakovsky with a pass off the rush that left him with an open net from the bottom of the right circle to push it to 4-0 at 8:55 of the third period.

“It's been great,” McCann said. “I'm trying to help [Wright] grow as much as I can and [Burakovsky], we're trying to get on the same page and last couple games here have been great. Just trying to do whatever the team needs me to do.”

SEA@VAN: Burakovsky fires home a one-timer on the rush

Canucks defenseman Marcus Pettersson lamented all the rush chances against.

“Really frustrating,” Pettersson said. “The looks they get, we kind of give them. We know they're good off the rush, and they got a lot of chances off the rush. It's deflating. We've got to pick ourselves back up and get back into the fight.”

Adam Larsson scored an empty-net goal for the 5-0 final at 16:24.

NOTES: Seattle forwards Eeli Tolvanen and Jaden Schwartz each missed their first game this season with undisclosed injuries and are out day to day. … Ryan Winterton played 12:22 in Tolvanen’s spot after being called up from Coachella Valley of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis on Tuesday, his ninth NHL game this season and first since Dec. 17. … It’s the fourth time the Canucks have been shut out this season, and the third time on home ice. … Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers did not play the final 11:47 of the third period.
