Edmonton Oilers
Leon Draisaitl is unlikely to play for the Oilers when they host the San Jose Sharks at Rogers Place on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET; SNW, NBCSCA). The forward sustained a lower-body injury in a 3-1 win against the Nashville Predators on Sunday. Draisaitl left the game after taking a hit from Predators forward Ozzy Wiesblatt at 4:20 of the first period. He returned for two shifts at the end of the period and then did not play in the second and third. “He had his doctor’s appointment this morning while we were on the ice and I haven’t heard anything since,” Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said Monday. “I think we’ll be some time without him. I’m not sure if it’s one or two (games) or how long it’s going to be. I don’t have much information right now.” Draisaitl is fourth in the NHL scoring race with 97 points (35 goals, 62 assists) in 65 games. Edmonton (33-26-9) is third in the Pacific Division, one point behind the Vegas Golden Knights and two back of the Anaheim Ducks. “We don’t want to aggravate it and make it worse,” Knoblauch said. “Obviously we’re looking at the big picture, but the games are important. There’s nothing for sure right now making the playoffs and we need to win hockey games, but obviously if he’s not healthy to play, he’s not going to play.”
