      Islanders at Lightning | Recap

TAMPA -- Tony DeAngelo scored 33 seconds into overtime to lift the New York Islanders to a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Saturday.

DeAngelo took a stretch pass from Bo Horvat behind the Lightning defense and beat Andrei Vasilevskiy on a breakaway.

"[Adam] Pelech was changing and they had a change going at the same time, on the offensive side you get almost a 10-12 foot headstart from their guy," DeAngelo said. "Bo makes a great read...and I was fortunate enough to finish it."

Said Horvat: "I was trying to skate and I had [Brayden] Point coming at me. He's a fast player so I used the net as protection and everybody was screaming behind me, so I took a quick look up and fired it as hard as I could. Tony did the rest."

NYI@TBL: DeAngelo buries the OT winner right off the bench

Adam Boqvist and Kyle Palmieri scored for the Islanders (24-20-7), who have won seven straight. Ilya Sorokin made 28 saves and Simon Holmstrom had two assists.

Boqvist was playing his first game for the Islanders after being claimed off waivers on Friday from the Florida Panthers.

"Obviously it's a lot in my head, I got in at 1:30 in the morning," Boqvist said. "Crazy day, but when you step on that ice you don't want to think too much, you just want to go out, win your battles and play for the team."

Jake Guentzel and Nikita Kucherov scored for the Lightning (27-20-4), who are 1-1-1 in the first three games of a five-game homestand. Vasilevskiy made 33 saves.

Guentzelgave Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead at 5:39 of the second period when he scored on a redirect of an initial shot by Erik Cernak.

"We got a point, obviously it's huge to get that at the end, but I don't think we had our best," said Guentzel, who will represent the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off from Feb. 12-20. "Sometimes that's going to happen. You can't get frustrated, keep putting pucks on it and hopefully they'll go in."

NYI@TBL: Guentzel redirects Cernak's saucer to kick off scoring

Boqvist tied it 1-1 at 18:16. Barzal took a pass off the boards from Holmstrom for a breakaway, Vasilevskiy made the save, but Boqvist beat Cernak to the loose puck and punched in the rebound.

"He was really good," Islanders coach Patrick Roy said of Boqvist. "He scored a nice goal for us, moved well on the rush, moved the puck. You know, he learned a lot, I'm sure, from the Panthers. It's nice to have a guy that's been in the locker room where they won the Stanley Cup."

Palmieri gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead at 6:41 of the third period when he scored on a one-timer from the right circle off a pass from Maxim Tsyplakov.

NYI@TBL: Palmieri snaps one home to give the Islanders the lead in the 3rd

Kucherov tied it 2-2 at 19:14 with a snap shot from the circle that deflected off of Jean-Gabriel Pageau's ankle and past Sorokin on the short side.

"We got a point out of it," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "There was a period of time where we were scoring more than expected and right now we're most definitely scoring less than expected. But we're not giving up a ton and when you're giving up two or less, you're giving yourself a chance to win."

Pageau said: "I thought we managed our energy and our emotions pretty good during the ups and downs of the game. Even when they got that bounce at the end we stayed positive. I think that's why we came out on top."

Barzal left the game with 1:20 remaining in the third period after blocking a shot off his foot. He needed assistance to get to the locker room. Roy had no further update.

NOTES: Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield left the game at 15:29 of the second period and did not return. ...Lightning forward Conor Geekie left the game late in the third period. Cooper did not have an update. ...The Lightning are 0-14-3 in games that they score two goals or less. ...Holmstrom has six points (three goals, three assists) during a three-game point streak.
