Skating speed: 23.92 mph - Connor McDavid (F, EDM)

The Edmonton Oilers center has the top skating speed of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs so far, reaching 23.92 miles per hour on an end-to-end rush early in the third period of their Game 2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. McDavid, who had the fastest speed burst of the 2024 postseason (23.85 mph in Game 3 against Dallas Stars in Western Conference Final), also leads the NHL in 20-plus mph speed bursts (49 in six games) and 22-plus mph bursts (12) this postseason. McDavid is tied for fourth in the entire NHL with 11 points (two goals, nine assists) through six games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and his 53 points (10 goals, 43 assists) in 31 playoff games since the start of the 2024 postseason are the most in the NHL over that span.

Shot speed: 99.74 mph - Colin Miller (D, WPG)

The Winnipeg Jets defenseman leads the League in top shot speed (99.74 mph) this postseason, with a close second in the category being Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman (99.20). Miller ranked fourth in the NHL in top shot speed during the regular season (103.08 mph).

There have been 86 shot attempts of at least 90 mph in the NHL this postseason, with 72 coming from defensemen; Hedman (10) has the most 90-plus mph shots followed closely by Colton Parayko of the St. Louis Blues and Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers (eight; tied for second). Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals (four) and Mark Stone of the Vegas Golden Knights (two) are the only forwards with multiple such shots this postseason.

High-danger shots on goal: 12 - Roope Hintz (F, DAL)

The Dallas Stars center leads the NHL in high-danger shots on goal (12 in seven games) among players whose teams have advanced in the postseason. Hintz, who had six points (three goals, three assists) over the final three games of Dallas' First Round series win against the Colorado Avalanche (compared to one point over the first four games), tied an NHL record (as did teammate Mikko Rantanen) for points in a playoff period in Game 6 (four; two goals, two assists). Hintz also ranks highly this postseason in top skating speed (23.67 mph; second), 20-plus mph speed bursts (42; third) and 22-plus mph speed bursts (nine; second). Hintz has scored two of Dallas' eight high-danger goals so far this postseason; the 28-year-old ranked in the 94th percentile in both high-danger SOG (74) and high-danger goals (18) during the regular season.

Toronto Maple Leafs wing Matthew Knies scored his fourth high-danger goal of the postseason in Game 1 against the Florida Panthers on Monday to lead all players. Knies and teammate Auston Matthews (11 high-danger SOG each) are just behind Hintz for the lead in high-danger SOG.

High-danger saves: 49 - Jake Oettinger (G, DAL)

The Stars starter leads the NHL in high-danger shots against (61 in seven games played) and high-danger saves (49) among goalies whose teams have advanced in the postseason. Oettinger, who also leads the entire playoff field in both midrange saves and long-range saves (51 each), had a .911 save percentage and 2.85 goals-against-average in Dallas' First Round series win against the Avalanche. Colorado ranked second in the League in goals per game since March 1 (3.62) trailing only the St. Louis Blues (3.68). Oettinger did not allow a single long-range goal (51 long-range shots against) in the series; the next-highest total of long-range saves without allowing a single goal during the playoffs is 32 (by Mackenzie Blackwood of the Avalanche). Oettinger had a save percentage greater than .900 in five of the seven games against the Avalanche (most such games in NHL this postseason).

Offensive zone time percentage: 51.8 - Shayne Gostisbehere (D, CAR)

The Carolina Hurricanes defenseman leads the NHL in offensive zone time percentage (51.8 in five games) among players whose teams have advanced in the postseason. Gostisbehere, who had four points (one goal, three assists) including three on the power play in the series, has already exceeded his point total (three in 15 games) from his last Stanley Cup Playoff appearance with the Hurricanes in 2023. Gostisbehere led all NHL players in offensive zone time percentage during the regular season (51.3), as he was joined by four of his teammates in the top six of this category:

The Hurricanes lead all teams this postseason in offensive zone time percentage (45.1), just as they did during the regular season (47.2), as they begin the Second Round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Tuesday against the Washington Capitals.
