TRENDING UP

-- Despite having multiple forwards injured (Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Ondrej Kase, Patrick Eaves), the Anaheim Ducks have eight players in NHL.com's top 200 and the fifth ranked goalie. The second line of rookie left wing Max Comtois (57th in Yahoo) and Jakob Silfverberg (69th in Yahoo) have helped them overcome injuries. Center Ryan Kesler recently returned from a hip injury and scored a goal in his first game back. If the Ducks continue to get elite play from goalie John Gibson (6th in Yahoo), they are an attractive team to target on the waiver wire.
Players worth adding: Jakob Silfverberg, RW; Ryan Kesler, C; Josh Manson, D; Max Comtois, LW; Adam Henrique, C; Hampus Lindholm, D
-- The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the trendiest fantasy teams to target off the waiver wire with second-liners Jordan Staal, Justin Williams and Warren Foegele ranked in Yahoo's top 60. The Hurricanes are tied for fifth in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche in goals (17 entering Saturday) and they're generating the second most shots per game (38.5). Backup goalie Curtis McElhinney has won two straight starts with a .930 save percentage and is worth streaming as a short-term injury replacement. Rookie right wing Andrei Svechnikov (80th in Yahoo) has made the most of his 11:56 per game with four points (two goals, two assists) in four games. Micheal Ferland has found chemistry with Sebastian Aho on the top line and is covering all categories with two goals, three assists (one on power play), a plus-5, 14 shots on goal and nine hits.
Players worth adding: Jordan Staal, C; Micheal Ferland, LW/RW; Curtis McElhinney, G; Justin Williams, RW; Warren Foegele, LW

TRENDING DOWN

-- The Vegas Golden Knights have scored the fourth fewest goals per game in the NHL (1.80) and have yet to score a power-play goal through five games. Their key offseason acquisition Max Pacioretty (105th in Yahoo) has one goal, no assists, 15 SOG and 14 hits in five games. Center William Karlsson, who scored 43 goals last season, has yet to score entering Saturday. Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is playing well below his save percentage from last season (.846; .927). It's been a small sample size, but the Golden Knights need to find depth scoring to re-emerge as a top 15 fantasy team. Wing Alex Tuch (lower body; out 2-4 weeks) should give Vegas a boost when he returns to the lineup.
-- The Florida Panthers may have only played two games entering Saturday, but starting goalie Roberto Luongo is out 2-4 weeks with a knee injury. Luongo's age and injury history give fantasy owners reasons to be concerned. Backup James Reimer is 0-1-1 with an .875 SV%, and it's possible that Michael Hutchinson (1 percent owned) could see playing time. Considering the competition in the Atlantic Division with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning, the Panthers will need more production from their deep forward group, especially on the power play, to offset their problems in net.
