If you haven't been to Islendingadagurinn, then you'll have to make this a priority for next summer, for sure! Of course I'm talking about the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba, which has been a rocking good time for more than a hundred years! Originally held in Winnipeg, the festival moved to Gimli in 1932 and it's no surprise why it's been held there ever since near the beautiful shores of Lake Winnipeg and at venues in town. While I had a chance to participate in the parade, I learned just how much there is to take in during the four-day event, from Viking combat demonstrations, to the cultural exhibits, a sandcastle building contest, art show and live music (and so much more!). For the past 95 years, a Fjallkona, or Maid of the Mountain, has been crowned, but still no Moose of the Mountain…I put a suggestion in the box!

After that amazing dose of culture, it was back to some hockey action in the form of Tim Hortons Street Hockey. I was able to participate in two separate events at the Brookside Blvd. Tim Hortons location where neighbourhood kids were invited to shoot around the ball. It was great to see grassroots hockey in action, and of course, being close to those blueberry muffins didn't hurt either! Summer is really flying by and the Tim Hortons Street Hockey event was a good reminder that I need to start training for the home opener, and Fan Fest which comes even sooner on September 15 at Bell MTS Iceplex (more details to come soon!). Still a bit more fun to have on these hot sunny days, however, so I hope you can meet me at these upcoming events!

As part of the 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets Go Green campaign, and leading up to the March 14 Go Green Game, True North Sports + Entertainment is hosting a series of community park cleanups. I hope you'll join me in your neighbourhood to help keep our green spaces beautiful and vibrant!
