Dec. 11, 2021 - The New York Islanders beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2 for
their first win at UBS Arena
.
Zach Parise scored the shorthanded game-winning goal, while JG Pageau (1G, 1A), Noah Dobson and Andy Greene also scored in the win. Parise's goal was his first as an Islander and poetically came on what would have been his late father - and former Islander - JP Parise's 80th birthday.
"There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him and what he did for me as a person and as a player," Parise said of his father after the game. "I had a good feeling coming to the rink today, for whatever reason, knowing it was his birthday. Had a good feeling all day, so for me it was pretty emotional when that puck went in and of course my mind goes right to him."
Ilya Sorokin stopped 30 shots to pick up the first win in team history in the building. Mathew Barzal and Oliver Wahlstrom each had two assists.
