Jan. 6, 1981 - John Tonelli scored five goals in the Islanders' 6-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Nassau Coliseum.
Tonelli scored the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth Islanders goals, while Bryan Trottier rounded out the scoring. In a role reversal, Mike Bossy, one of the game's greatest goal scorers, dished out a career-high six assists in the win.

      Legends Plaque Series: John Tonelli

      Tonelli became just the second Islander to score five goals in a game, after Trottier accomplished the feat on Dec. 23, 1978. To date, Tonelli and Trottier (twice) are the only Islanders to score five goals in a game.
