Simon Holmstrom’s first pass to Brayden Schenn wasn’t a puck, but a number.
Holmstrom gave Schenn his number 10, a show of respect from the young Islanders forward for the veteran of 1,083 NHL games who was acquired on Friday. Schenn had worn the number playing youth hockey, junior hockey in every NHL game except his debut in 2009.
"I've worn it since I've been five years old," Schenn said. "I've worn it for my whole life and it very kind of him and might cost me a little bit."
