Positive Performances Between the Pipes
Eetu Makiniemi earned his second shutout of the season with a 20-save performance on Jan. 20 against San Diego. Five days later, he stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced to help the Barracuda earn a point at Henderson. The netminder has allowed just four goals across his last three starts. Ben Gaudreau posted a 4-0-0 record, .912 SV% and 2.00 GAA across four games in the last two weeks. His 30 saves on Jan. 27 at Soo are the second most he has made this season and his .957 save percentage (22-of-23) on Jan. 31 is tied for his best single game percentage this year. Mason Beaupit is 6-1-0 in his last seven games for Winnipeg and now has a .905 save percentage since being traded to the Ice. He recorded his first shutout of the season on Jan. 22.
Prospect notables:
• William Eklund continued his hot stretch with a point in each of the Barracuda's four contests in the last two weeks (1g, 3a). He has points in seven of his last eight games.
• Nikolai Knyzhov made his season debut on Jan. 25 at Henderson, earning a plus-one rating and recording three shots. This was Kynzhov's first professional hockey game since lacing up with the Sharks in their 2020-21 season finale against Vegas on May 12, 2021, a span of 623 days.
• Timur Ibragimov earned a career-best four points (3g, 1a) in Wichita's decisive 7-1 victory against Kansas City on Jan. 21. Ibragimov ranks fifth on Wichita in goals and sixth in points.
• After scoring the game-winning overtime goal against Dartmouth on Jan. 28, Alex Young's point streak now stands at 10 games. The junior has earned a point in every Colgate contest since Dec. 2 against Dartmouth, totaling 15 points (11g, 4a) in all. On Jan. 21, Young logged an assist on Colgate's first goal of the night as they rallied to beat #1 ranked Quinnipiac.
• Filip Bystedt is riding a two-game point streak (0g, 2a) and ranks third among U-20 SHL skaters in points, T-2nd in goals.
• Yegor Spiridonov scored his first KHL goal on Jan. 26.
