April 19 – Power avoids surgery on lower-body injury

A second opinion on Owen Power’s lower-body injury determined he will not need surgery, the defenseman said during his end-of-season press conference on Saturday.

Power fell awkwardly on his left leg during a collision with Florida Panthers forward Carter Verhaeghe on April 12. He missed the final three games of the season and traveled to New York City last week for further evaluation on the best recovery process.

“It went very well,” Power said. “Was able to avoid the surgery route and should be a couple months and then be ready to go for next year.”

Power said his estimated recovery time is two months.

April 18 – Sabres loan 4 players to Amerks

The Sabres assigned forwards Isak Rosen, Jiri Kulich, Noah Ostlund, and Tyson Kozak to Rochester on Friday following the conclusion of the NHL regular season.

Rosen, Ostlund, and Kozak have all been key contributors for the Amerks at points this season. Kulich spent the bulk of the season in the NHL (with the exception of four games for Rochester) but led the Amerks with 27 goals in 2023-24.

Rochester has two regular-season games remaining and opens the Calder Cup Playoffs on Friday, April 25.

End-of-season injury updates

Jordan Greenway, F (lower body) – Out since March 23

Greenway discussed his injury, which forced him to miss the final 13 games, during his end-of-season press conference on April 18.

The injury was related to the middle-body surgery Greenway underwent in December. He expects that sitting out the final month of the season will have set him up for an uninterrupted offseason.

"I’ll be pretty much good to go, I think," Greenway said. "That was the thought process for me, just in the rehab that I’ve done and the workouts that I’ve done, to where I can go into the offseason ready to train, ready to do what I need to do to come back and be 100-percent effective at training camp." - Last updated April 18

Josh Norris, F (oblique) – Out since March 12

Norris' season ended March 12 in Detroit, where he aggravated a torn oblique – an injury he estimates he initially suffered in early February.

"When I got here (to Buffalo), it kind of just kept getting worse," Norris said at the April 19 end-of-season media availability. "I probably came back a little early, originally, back in February, and just didn’t really get better. But I’m feeling good now.”

The center, who played three games with the Sabres after being acquired March 7 from Ottawa, has also dealt with shoulder injuries in recent years. He spent the last month of the season rehabbing with an eye on a full, productive offseason.

"I think if you play with that (injury), especially at this stage of the season, then you can really mess your summer training up," Norris said. "I just didn’t think it was worth that, especially given my history the last couple of years – not being able to train properly and things like that because of my shoulder. I thought it was important that that this summer was a healthy one and one that I can not have to worry about." - Last updated April 19
