EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) announced today the launch of its new initiative, Every Kid Deserves A Shot – where kids across Oil Country are supported and inspired by the transformative power of hockey. The current Oilers 50/50 raffle, running October 22-29, is in support Every Kid Deserves A Shot.
"We are so excited to announce the launch of our brand new initiative, Every Kid Deserves A Shot," said Corey Smith, EOCF Board Chair. "We envision a future where every one of the 550,000 kids in Oil Country gets the chance to reach their full potential, and we're taking bold steps to make it happen. We believe that at its best, hockey is about hope, courage, focus, fair play and belonging. These principles are just as important in life as they are in sport, and they represent what we want Oil Country to be."
Through the Oilers 50/50 and other fundraising activities, the EOCF's Every Kid Deserves A Shot initiative will invest in programs, on and off the ice, that create more opportunities for kids to play hockey and allow every kid to dream big, changing our community's future for the better. This initiative aims to make hockey more accessible, affordable and inclusive for all kids in Oil Country.
But it’s not just about getting sticks in kids' hands. The program will also address crucial building blocks needed for kids to participate in hockey like resilience, nutrition, education and belonging. Through a portfolio of complementary investments and programs, Every Kid Deserves A Shot aims to triple the number of kids impacted through the Foundation.
The EOCF's current key community partners of Every Kid Deserves A Shot are KidSport, Hockey Alberta Foundation, Free Play For Kids and Sport Central. More partners will be added as the program grows.
The draw date for the current Oilers 50/50 raffle, as well as the massive Battle of Alberta Bonus Raffle, is on Sunday, October 29 at 11:00 PM following the 2023 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium.
Customers who purchase $25 in 50/50 tickets will also receive a voucher for an Oilers collectible cup, claimable with a dine-in purchase at participating Boston Pizza locations. Customers who purchase $100 in 50/50 tickets will also receive $25 for Boston Pizza and a $25 sports bet from Play Alberta.
