Jets at Ducks | Recap

ANAHEIM -- Leo Carlsson scored two power-play goals to extend his point streak to 10 games, and the Anaheim Ducks won their seventh game in a row with a 4-1 victory against the Winnipeg Jets at Honda Center on Sunday.

Carlsson has 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) during his point streak.

“That was something that we talked about before the season, us young guys to take a step," Carlsson said. "My third season, Beckett [Sennecke's] first few games. Cutter (Gauthier), too, [Mason McTavish] and those guys. It’s just about time, I would say.”

Sennecke also scored two goals, Gauthier and Chris Kreider each had two assists, and Lukas Dostal made 23 saves for the Ducks (11-3-1), who were coming off a 4-3 overtime win at the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday and are 9-1-1 in their past 11.

"We wanted to get off to a great start, and I think we accomplished the good start," Anaheim coach Joel Quenneville said. "Now, we want to make sure we create a standard and we want to improve off of it."

Kyle Connor scored, and Eric Comrie made 17 saves for the Jets (9-6-0), who have lost the first three games of a six-game road trip (outscored 9-2).

"They're coming off a back-to-back and we wanted to get on them early and we just didn't do it," said Jets forward Cole Perfetti, who made his season debut after sustaining an ankle injury during the preseason. "We just didn't execute properly. We're just not playing our style the way we can."

Sennecke gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead at 7:18 of the first period, scoring with a one-timer from the left hash marks off a backhand feed from below the goal line by Gauthier.

The goal came after Sennecke passed up a shot on a pair of early 2-on-1 breaks.

"Two 2-on-1s right off the bat and we don't get a shot and it's like, 'OK,' and then he scores on the same shift," Quenneville said. "So, it was one of those nights where, certain teams, you don't want to look for the perfect play, and getting pucks to the net sometimes can be effective, but [Sennecke] certainly has got some different things in his bag of tricks type of thing where he makes plays and he's slippery and, at the same time, he's got some strength in the puck area and he's got a tricky release as well."

The Ducks killed two penalties before scoring on the first of their four power plays.

Jackson LaCombe's slap shot from the point hit Kreider in front of the net, but the puck dropped down to Troy Terry, who swept it over to Carlsson for a one-timer from the left circle that made it 2-0 at 19:03.

Connor cut it to 2-1 a 4:22 of the second period, scoring through the legs of Drew Helleson with a wrist shot from above the right hash marks.

The goal was Connor's 600th NHL point (293 goals, 307 assists in 628 games).

"I'm sure down the line I'll look back on that and it will be pretty cool, but trying to help the team win here," Connor said. "We've lost three in a row now and we've got a long way to go."

Sennecke pushed the lead to 3-1 at 11:48. Gauthier's shot from the bottom of the right circle was saved by Comrie, but the rebound came out diagonally to Sennecke, who reached around Jets defenseman Dylan DeMelo and swiped the puck five-hole.

Gauthier started the play by forcing a turnover by Mark Scheifele along the right boards.

"They're playing with a lot of confidence," Perfetti said. "A lot of young guys over there that are off to a hot start, and confidence is key in this League. So, when you have the talent like that and the speed and then you mix it with the confidence, good things are going to happen."

Carlsson made it 4-1 at 2:47 of the third period with a one-timer from the left circle for his second power-play goal of the game.

“I think our forecheck kind of set the tone for us tonight," Sennecke said. "We were turning over a lot of pucks and creating and moving off each other really well.

“You’ve got a lot of talent in this group, and then you see with the new, world-class coach coming in, it’s showing.”
