Hellebuyck-Hughes-split

The Winnipeg Jets already have goalie Connor Hellebuyck going to Toronto for 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend from Feb. 1-3.

With the way the Jets are playing, they deserve at least one more player to join him.

Winnipeg is the new No. 1 team in the NHL.com Super 16 power rankings this week, moving up from No. 4 last week. The Jets have won seven straight games and have points in 13 in a row (11-0-2). They have not allowed more than three goals in a game in 30 straight games.

Who could join Hellebuyck at All-Star Weekend? Great question. We decided to answer that this week.

Fans are in the process of selecting the final 12 players (eight skaters, four goalies) to attend All-Star Weekend through the 2024 NHL All-Star Fan Vote presented by MassMutual. Fans can vote at NHL.com/vote and via X (formerly Twitter) and the NHL App.

The Super 16 this week offers a guide for fans in their voting process, with the writers and editors who vote on the power rankings each week providing a single choice for each of the 16 teams ranked this week.

As a reminder, to come up with the Super 16 each week, the voters put together their own version of what they think the rankings should look like and a point total is assigned to each, with the team selected first given 16 points, second 15, third 14, and so on.

Here is the All-Star Fan Vote version of the Super 16.

1. Winnipeg Jets (27-9-4)

Total points: 204

Last week: No. 4

"When I was tasked to write about the Jets last week, I had them ranked fifth. They were 16-4-2 in their past 22 games and hadn't allowed more than three goals in 26 consecutive games. They've since gone 4-0-0 as part of a seven-game winning streak while allowing a total of four goals, so I have them at No. 1. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck was deservedly chosen for the All-Star Game and has several teammates who should join him. If I had to pick one, it would be forward Mark Scheifele. He scored 42 goals last season but wasn't an All-Star. Well, he has 41 points (14 goals, 27 assists) in 40 games this season and should book his flight to Toronto now." -- David Satriano, staff writer

WPG@ARI: Scheifele skates in on a breakaway and puts home a backhand shot

2. Vancouver Canucks (27-11-3)

Total points: 195

Last week: No. 3

"It's hard to pick just one, honestly. Anyone who saw their romp through the three New York City-area teams this week knows the Canucks are loaded with talent, especially forwards J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, and goalie Thatcher Demko. If I had to pick one to join defenseman Quinn Hughes in Toronto, it's Pettersson. He's young (25). He's fast and he's a scoring machine." -- Bill Price, Editor-in-Chief

3. Boston Bruins (24-8-8)

Total points: 179

Last week: No. 1

"It's Charlie Coyle. Though I wish Bruins goalies Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman could make the All-Star Game as a package deal, both for the hugs and sheer entertainment, I think the season that Coyle is having is going under the radar. His numbers aren't eye-popping, but his impact is tremendous. Coyle has 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in 40 games while playing 17:52 per game, including 2:51 per game short-handed, exactly the way the Bruins hoped since they acquired him in a trade with the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 20, 2019. I'm well-aware that Coyle isn't going to make the team. He doesn't have the numbers or the name, but he deserves it, nonetheless." -- Amalie Benjamin, staff writer

4. New York Rangers (26-11-2)

Total points: 160

Last week: No. 2

"It should be Artemi Panarin joining goalie Igor Shesterkin. That's the no-brainer choice. He's tied for third in the NHL with 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists), but the Rangers forward took himself out of the running by announcing that he will not be going to All-Star Weekend because he and his wife are expecting their second child, so we wish the Panarins good luck and an early congratulations. That opens the door for Panarin's linemate, Vincent Trocheck, who has been a driving force in all areas of the game for the Rangers. He is second on the team with 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists), including 11 (four goals, seven assists) in his past five games. The center has won 61.9 percent of the 701 face-offs he's taken, second in the NHL among players who have taken at least 500. Trocheck averages the most ice time per game among New York forwards (20:54). He kills penalties and the Rangers are tied with the Florida Panthers for fifth on the penalty kill (84.4 percent). He's the middleman on a power play that is first in the League (30.0 percent). He does it all and belongs in the All-Star Game this season." -- Dan Rosen, senior writer

5. Colorado Avalanche (27-12-3)

Total points: 158

Last week: No. 5

"There are so many deserving candidates. Cale Makar is a top-five defenseman in the NHL, already with a Norris Trophy on his mantle. Goalie Alexandar Georgiev leads the League with 23 wins. Forwards Mikko Rantanen and Valeri Nichushkin each have at least 20 goals and averaging better than a point per game. A compelling case can be made for each, but it's Makar hands-down. His skill set is made for this event. He would be a natural as one of the 12 to compete in the skills competition and we've seen countless times how dangerous he is in 3-on-3 play, which is the format of the All-Star Game. Makar is a must-add." -- Shawn P. Roarke, senior director of editorial

6. Florida Panthers (26-12-2)

Total points: 155

Last week: No. 6

"The Panthers have outscored their opponents 36-15, are averaging 4.50 goals per game and allowing 1.88 per game, in eight straight wins and begin a five-game homestand against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Though forward Sam Reinhart (51 points; 29 goals) deserves to play his first NHL All-Star Game, goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is doing a masterful job and is another very worthy candidate. 'Bob' is 6-1-0 with a 2.29 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in his past seven starts. For the season, he's tied with Demko for third in wins (20-9-1), fourth in GAA (2.45; minimum 20 games) and ninth in save percentage (.911; minimum 20 games). He's earned it." -- Mike G. Morreale, staff writer

7. Dallas Stars (24-11-5)

Total points: 108

Last week: No. 8

"I wrote this in another All Star-related entry and I'm sticking with it: Jason Robertson should be going to the All-Star Game. The 24-year-old forward has been a model of scoring consistency throughout his young career and that's true again this season. He leads the Stars with 41 points (15 goals, 26 assists) and 13 power-play points. If I had my way, I'd bring that whole top line (Robertson, center Roope Hintz and right wing Joe Pavelski) to Toronto, but I only get one, so make it Robertson. He's earned it." -- Tracey Myers, staff writer

8. Toronto Maple Leafs (21-10-7)

Total points: 104

Last week: No. 11

"The fans are right about this one. It's William Nylander, who as of Monday was leading the fan vote with 744,990 votes. He will join forward Auston Matthews and maybe one or two other Maple Leafs in representing the host team at All-Star Weekend, and it's deserved. Nylander leads the Maple Leafs and is tied with Panarin and David Pastrnak for third in the League with 57 points (21 goals, 36 assists). He's having his best season. He earned his eight-year, $92 million contract that he signed Monday. He's a lock for the All-Star Game." -- Rosen

9. Carolina Hurricanes (22-13-5)

Total points: 102

Last week: No. 10

"It took Andrei Svechnikov a bit of time to get going once he made his season debut Oct. 27, which makes sense after he missed seven months recovering from a torn ACL. But since Dec. 19, the forward has been one of the best players in the NHL. In his past nine games he has 15 points (eight goals, seven assists), including a run of six straight multipoint games, and during that span the Hurricanes are 6-1-2. It's not a surprise that Carolina is playing some of its best hockey when the 23-year-old is playing some of his best hockey. Svechnikov is averaging 1.04 points per game, (26 points in 25 games), the best of his six NHL seasons, and he's very much earned a spot in the All-Star Game for the second straight year." -- Adam Kimelman, deputy managing editor

10. Vegas Golden Knights (23-13-5)

Total points: 100

Last week: No. 7

"Mark Stone should join Jack Eichel for All-Star Weekend. He has 39 points (12 goals, 27 assists) in 41 games, three points behind Eichel (18 goals, 24 assists) for first on the Golden Knights. The team captain, Stone is the emotional leader and heart and soul. And as a former member of the Ottawa Senators, he could add a little touch of the Battle of Ontario to the event in Toronto. Adin Hill is 10-2-2 with a 1.93 GAA, .933 save percentage and two shutouts, but he's played only 15 games due to injury." -- Nicholas J. Cotsonika, columnist

11. Edmonton Oilers (21-15-1)

Total points: 78

Last week: No. 12

"Zach Hyman should be attending his first All-Star Game in his ninth NHL season. The forward is having another career year playing with Connor McDavid and regarded as one of the best free agent signings in Edmonton's history. Hyman is on pace to reach 50 goals for the first time in the NHL. He has 25 goals and 40 points (15 assists) in 36 games this season. Prior to arriving in Edmonton, Hyman's most productive season was for the Maple Leafs in 2018-19, when he had 41 points (21 goals, 20 assists) in 71 games. After signing a seven-year contract with the Oilers on July 28, 2021, Hyman has continually improved his offensive totals. He had 54 points (27 goals, 27 assists) in 76 games of his first season with Edmonton, and 83 points (36 goals, 47 assists) in 79 games in his second season. Hyman is well on his way to improving on those totals this season." -- Derek Van Diest, staff writer

12. Los Angeles Kings (20-10-7)

Total points: 77

Last week: No. 9

"With goalie Cam Talbot representing the Kings so far, it's obvious that a team this good despite a six-game skid (0-3-3) should get one additional skater to Toronto. More than one deserves the honor, Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar. Each is averaging close to a point per game and playing well in his own end. Given the age discrepancy between Kempe, 27, and Kopitar, 36, I would love to see Kopitar get voted in. It would be his sixth and quite possibly last All-Star appearance. Having debuted as an NHL All-Star in 2008, Kopitar deserves the chance to showcase his dedication and hockey longevity with this inclusion 16 years later." -- Paul Strizhevsky, staff writer

13. Seattle Kraken (17-14-9)

Total points: 25

Last week: Unranked

"The Kraken have Oliver Bjorkstrand going to his first NHL All-Star Game. Joey Daccord should join him for his first. Daccord is the story in Seattle. The Kraken have won seven in a row with points in 11 consecutive games (9-0-2) and the No. 1 reason is the goalie. Daccord is 8-0-2 with a 1.38 GAA, .957 save percentage and two shutouts in those 11 games since Dec. 12 and 6-0-0 with a 1.16 GAA and .967 save percentage during the winning streak that began Dec. 20. He stole the show at the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1 with a shutout in a 3-0 win against the Golden Knights. Who's to say he won't steal the show in Toronto too? Get him there." -- Rosen

14. Philadelphia Flyers (21-14-6)

Total points: 24

Last week: No. 14

"The easy choice for the Flyers to join Travis Konecny in Toronto is goalie Carter Hart, who's 10-8-3 with a 2.69 GAA, .911 save percentage and one shutout. Hart has been solid, but he's not my choice. I'm going with center Sean Couturier, whose numbers (28 points; 10 goals, 18 assists, plus-10, 19:59 of ice time per game) won't blow your hair back if you've got it, but his story will. Couturier is having a comeback season after missing almost 22 months because of two back surgeries. When he made his season debut Oct. 12, it was his first game since Dec. 18, 2021. He's been a driving force behind the Flyers' surprising success this season and his story should be celebrated in Toronto." -- Rosen

15. New Jersey Devils (21-15-2)

Total points: 23

Last week: Unranked

"Jesper Bratt is one of the most underappreciated players in the NHL. He shouldn't be. The Devils forward is an elite talent and continues to prove it. He has 44 points (14 goals, 30 assists) in 38 games this season, one fewer than Jack Hughes, who is New Jersey's representative so far. Hughes is injured and the hope is that he will be OK to play in Toronto. Bratt has played his way into contention and if he gets to go it will be on merit. He had 73 points in each of the past two seasons and is on pace for 95 this season." -- Rosen

16. New York Islanders (18-12-10)

Total points: 19

Last week: No. 13

"Without question, at least in my mind, Noah Dobson is not only an All-Star, but he should at least be in the conversation when it comes to the Norris Trophy at this stage of the season. The 24-year-old's game has grown exponentially, especially during the extended absences of defensemen Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock (Pelech returned Tuesday). Dobson is among the League leaders at his position in points and plus/minus while averaging 25:51 of ice time per game, second to Drew Doughty (26:02). He unequivocally deserves to be in Toronto the first weekend of February." -- Brian Compton, managing editor

Others receiving points: Pittsburgh Penguins 18, Washington Capitals 17, Nashville Predators 13, Tampa Bay Lightning 9

Dropped out: Predators (No. 15), Capitals (No. 16)

New Amsterdam Game of the Week

Each week, NHL.com will highlight one game that features two teams in the Super 16. This week, it's the No. 3 Boston Bruins against the No. 10 Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday (10 p.m. ET; SCRIPPS, NESN, TVAS).

We don't have to wait long for the Game of the Week. It wasn't long ago that the Bruins, who dropped out of the No. 1 spot this week, and Golden Knights, who have fallen to No. 10, were arguably the two best teams in the NHL, at least record wise. They may still be, but for now they've been passed by the Jets, Canucks and maybe a few others. The Bruins have lost the first two games on their four-game road trip, albeit both in extra time (4-3 in a shootout to the Avalanche and 4-3 in overtime to the Arizona Coyotes). The Golden Knights are playing the second half of a tough back-to-back set after a 3-0 loss at Colorado on Wednesday.
