CHI@STL: Blues fans honor Maroon during his last game in St. Louis

Patrick Maroon received an emotional send off from his hometown.

St. Louis Blues fans gave the Chicago Blackhawks forward a standing ovation during his last game at Enterprise Center on Saturday.

Before the game, Maroon announced his retirement from the NHL after 14 seasons in a pregame interview with Chicago Sports Network’s Darren Pang.

In the second period, Blues fans stood up and cheered for Maroon who saluted the crowd. Both Blackhawks and Blues benches tapped their sticks on the boards.

Cameras caught the veteran forward's dad, Phil, tear up during the ovation.

“It was fantastic [the ovation]. It brought a little emotion to me also,” Maroon’s dad said in an interview with FanDuel Sports Network. “I’m just so proud of his accomplishments. He’s done it all on his own, he’s never had much help. He’s worked hard and I just kept going back all those years that he worked hard, had to fight through the minor leagues and fight to get on certain teams. He’s done everything that nobody expected him to do.”

CHI@STL: Maroon's father discusses his son's career after an ovation

Maroon, who grew up in St. Louis, helped the Blues to their Stanely Cup championship in 2019. He won two more Stanely Cup titles the next two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2020-21).

“Sometimes you’ve got to give up everything you know and everything you dreamed of your whole life,” Maroon said in the pregame interview. “I just know it’s time for me and it’s time for my family to go start a new chapter in our lives.”

To finish off the night, Maroon was named the first star of the game and received one final ovation.
