NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman introduced some special guests that would be helping out at the 2026 Upper Deck NHL Draft on Friday.
Members of the Rhode Island Division II High School champion Blackstone Valley Schools team would be handing out the first professional sweaters to every prospect that walked the stage, the Commissioner said.
In February, a tragic shooting at one of the team's games resulted in the deaths of three family members of team captain Colin Dorgan.
"They experienced an incredible tragedy this past winter ands then emerged triumphant, winning the Rhode Island Division II boys' high school state championship," the Commissioner said to assembled fans inside KeyBank Center in Buffalo. "Led by their captain Colin Dorgan, they will present NHL clutch sweaters to each selection that takes the stage tonight."
The players wore their white Blackstone Valley Schools jerseys to the event.
