DAL@MIN: Spurgeon honored by Wild for 1,000th career game

The Minnesota Wild had a tree-mendous celebration for Jared Spurgeon on Saturday.

The team celebrated their captain for reaching the 1,000 NHL games milestone with a special pregame ceremony at Grand Casino Arena.

A tribute video featuring highlights and special video messages from his teammates and family aired on the arena video board.

Spurgeon’s wife, Danielle, kids, Zach, Colbie, Jace and Myer, and parents, Debbie and Barry, then joined him at center ice for the celebration.

Before the game, the Wild players gifted Spurgeon a Polaris Ranger XP vehicle.

Wild owner Craig Leipold presented the captain with the Tiffany crystal on behalf of the League. Minnesota general manager and president of hockey operations Bill Guerin presented Spurgeon with the commemorative silver stick.

The entire team then joined Spurgeon and his family for a group picture.

On March 14, Spurgeon played his 1,000th NHL game during a matchup against the New York Rangers.

The veteran defenseman is in his 16th NHL season, all which have been played in Minnesota. He was named the team’s captain in 2021.
