Matthews wearing Guerrero Jr. jersey

Game recognizes game.

On Tuesday, the day after five-time MLB All-Star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. wore an Auston Matthews sweater to Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, Matthews returned the favor.

In a sign of mutual respect, the Toronto Maple Leafs forward rocked a Guerrero Jr. Toronto Blue Jays jersey to Scotiabank Arena before the team takes on the New Jersey Devils (7 p.m. ET; TSN4, MSG).

Guerrero Jr. is a strong supporter of the Maple Leafs, cheering for the team before Game 7 of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.

After swapping out his Matthews jersey on Monday, the first baseman and his Blue Jays clinched a spot in the 2025 World Series with a 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. Guerrero Jr. was named ALCS MVP after a memorable run in the playoff series.

Along with Matthews, other Maple Leafs wore Blue Jays gear on their way into the arena.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Maple Leafs forward Max Domi said Guerrero Jr.’s pregame outfit was “awesome.”

“We're a sports town, right, and we all support each other, and I think everyone in here is rooting for the Jays right now, obviously,” Domi said. "I'm sure it's the same thing when they're coming to our games, but for them to show some love and respect to Auston is obviously well deserved.

“I'm so happy for [Guerrero Jr.] and his entire team, and I’m really cheering them on in the World Series."

Call it superstition, but we might suggest that Guerrero Jr. hangs onto that Matthews jersey for a little while longer as his team battles for the World Series trophy.
