Drew Doughty has resumed skating but remains "a ways away" from a return to action for the Kings.
The defenseman has not played this season after he broke his left ankle in a preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sept. 25.
Doughty has been listed as month to month since undergoing surgery for the injury.
Kings head coach Jim Hiller was pleased to see Doughty back on the ice, but said he wasn't close to making his season debut.
"To see him get to that level, we didn't know when that was going to happen, that's a big deal," Hiller said after practice. "If you know everything that's gone into it, that was a big deal. It's really encouraging."
Doughty averaged 25:48 of time per game last season, second in the NHL behind Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (25:54). Doughty also led Kings defensemen with 50 points (15 goals, 35 assists) in 82 games, and was tied with forward Quinton Byfield for fourth on Los Angeles in assists.
The Kings have gotten 74 points (16 goals, 58 assists) from their defensemen this season. Doughty has led Kings defensemen in points every season from 2013-14 through last season.
Doughty, who did not miss a game for five straight seasons from 2014-19, appeared in 460 consecutive games during that stretch, the longest streak in Kings history.
