      Rangers at Senators | Recap

OTTAWA -- Brady Tkachuk scored twice, including 33 seconds into overtime, and the Ottawa Senators rallied for a 4-3 win against the New York Rangers at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday.

"You look at some of the chances that we missed, power-play opportunities that we didn't capitalize on," Tkachuk said. "Yeah, we could've easily let the frustration consume us, change the way we want to play and get in the way of what we're trying to do. I think that's just showing where our team is at right now. Frustration doesn't matter; it's always the next shift."

Tkachuk, who extended his goal streak to five games, took a cross-ice pass from Tim Stutzle and beat Igor Shesterkin five-hole with a wrist shot from the right slot. Stutzle extended his point streak to 14 games on the goal (five goals, 15 assists).

"It was a great play by Timmy, and I just knew in that part of the ice, you've got to shoot it," Tkachuk said. "It was, I guess, a big win."

NYR@OTT: Tkachuk lifts Senators in OT with his second goal of the game

Ridly Greig and Michael Amadio each scored in the third, and Linus Ullmark made 20 saves for the Senators (32-25-5), who trailed 3-1 in the third period.

"That was probably one of the better games we've played in a little while here," Ottawa coach Travis Green said. "Their goalie played well; we created a lot and stuck with it and found a way to win."

Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist, and Carson Soucy scored in his Rangers debut. Shesterkin made 33 saves for New York (31-26-6), which extended its point streak to four games (2-0-2).

"It's disappointing," Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said. "We were in control of the game, and we didn't finish it, so it's disappointing to leave a point on the table and not get the win."

Greig cut it to 3-2 at 10:16 of the third. Thomas Chabot's initial shot was stopped by Shesterkin, and Dylan Cozens' follow-up shot hit the post before Greig scored into an open net. Amadio scored on a loose puck in the crease to tie it 3-3 at 17:08.

"We've been talking about [going to the net] a lot lately," Green said. "You go down the stretch, things are going to get tighter and if you want to score goals, you've got to get to the paint."

NYR@OTT: Amadio evens the game at 3 late in the 3rd

Soucy, who was acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 8:37 of the first period when his wrist shot snuck past Ullmark and trickled over the goal line after a whistle. The initial call on the ice was no goal, but a video review determined the puck crossed the line on a continuous play, and the call on the ice was overturned.

"Unfortunately, not the win, but I felt better as the game went on," Soucy said. "I think some things are just going to take a little bit of time to get used to, just the systems changes, but overall, the first game, I thought I felt pretty well."

Mika Zibanejad pushed it to 2-0 at 3:55 of the second period when he took a cross-ice pass from J.T. Miller and beat Ullmark over the glove with a wrist shot from the slot.

"This one doesn't feel like a point that you fought back [for], coming back or a big point that way," Zibanejad said. "It could potentially be a big point later on, but at the same time, it's not the way we can think right now. We needed two points, and we didn't get it today."

NYR@OTT: Zibanejad doubles the lead with a nifty goal in 2nd

Tkachuk, who was playing in his 500th NHL game, cut it to 2-1 at 4:06 of the second when he tipped a Nick Jensen point shot.

"It's been an emotional 24 hours for not only him but the rest of our group (after trading forward Josh Norris and defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker on Friday)," Green said. "And having a 12:30 p.m. start, I give our team a lot of credit for getting focused to play [today]. The guy's the captain of our team. He's maturing a lot as he goes along, as well."

Panarin extended his goal streak to four games when he took a stretch pass from Jonny Brodzinski, skated in on a breakaway and beat Ullmark over the glove with a snap shot to make it 3-1 at 7:08 of the third.

Cozens, who was acquired by Ottawa with Dennis Gilbert in the trade on Friday, had an assist on Greig's goal.

"It felt great," Cozens said. "You couldn't draw it up any better. A little comeback win in overtime for the first one. It was an awesome win. I'm so, so happy and excited to be a part of
this group and do something special here."

NOTES: Stutzle's point streak is the third longest in franchise history behind Dany Heatley (22 games in 2005-06, 16 games in 2006-07). … Cozens had a career-high nine hits in 17:27 of ice time. Gilbert had three hits in 6:19 of ice time in his Ottawa debut. … Tkachuk became the first player in Senators history with multiple goals in his 500th NHL game. … Panarin's 150th multi-point game with New York tied Steve Vickers for seventh most in team history. … Senators defenseman Travis Hamonic needed help getting off the ice late in the third period and did not return. Green did not have an update.
