Kings at Flames | Recap

CALGARY – Dustin Wolf made 31 saves to help the Calgary Flames hold off the Los Angeles Kings for a 2-1 win at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.

Matt Coronato had a goal and an assist, and Jonathan Huberdeau scored for the Flames (20-14-7), who have won two in a row and five of eight.

"You know they're going to come in and have a push to try to push us out of the game," Wolf said. "We were the ones that just hung around today. And as the game went on, we started to control more of it."

Jacob Moverare scored his first goal of the season, and David Rittich made 16 saves for the Kings (24-11-5), who had a five-game winning streak end.

"It was a hard game," Moverare said. "We all saw it. We had more shots than them, but I think both teams had some pretty good looks. They drew the longer straw in this battle."

LAK@CGY: Moverare wrists in the game opener from the high slot

Moverare scored on a wrist shot through traffic past Wolf's blocker to put Los Angeles up 1-0 at 6:19 of the first period. The goal came on the 12th of 17 first-period shots.

"I think we came out really good the first 10 minutes and we had some really good looks," Moverare said. "They have a good goalie over there, so he made some key saves. I think we could've maybe scored one or two more, but it happens. They have a good goalie."

Los Angeles outshot Calgary 17-4 in the first period.

"My job is to try to keep pucks out of our net, and we're down 1-0, we started to come around, and you know as soon as you get one, we're right back in it," Wolf said.

LAK@CGY: Coronato ties it up with wrister from the circle

Coronato tied it 1-1 at 8:58 of the second period. He took a pass from Blake Coleman and snapped a shot over Rittich's glove from inside the left face-off circle.

"That goal is one of the top ones he's had, for sure," Wolf said. "It came at a very good time for us as well. I have no doubt he's going to score many more just like that."

Huberdeau put Calgary ahead 2-1 at 4:36 of the third period with a power-play goal, a spinning shot by Rittich's right pad after corralling a rebound on Coronato's initial one-timer.

"I was fortunate I got a good bounce on Matty's shot," Huberdeau said. "I just tried to put it as fast as I could. I knew the goalie was out of position. That was a huge goal for us. It was a good game. We know that kind of game we expect against them, and found a way to win."

LAK@CGY: Huberdeau grabs the lead on the man advantage

Kings forward Adrian Kempe hit the post on a wrist shot at 10:53.

Wolf stopped Phillip Danault's tip at 16:26, then pushed across the crease to keep out the rebound attempt from the slot.

"Coming out, I think we started really well," Los Angeles forward Quinton Byfield said. "The first period, the first 10 (minutes) we started off really good, and after that they put on their workbooks, put the pucks behind us and started going. It's obviously a tale of special teams. They got one and we didn't."
