The Vegas Golden Knights churned out a 4-3 victory against the Dallas Stars in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs First Round on Monday night at American Airlines Center.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Mark Stone got the scoring started early in his return as his power-play goal in the first two minutes gave Vegas a 1-0 lead. Jonathan Marchessault added to the lead seven minutes later to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. After Jamie Benn got the Stars on the board with a breakaway goal, Tomas Hertl buried his first playoff goal as a Golden Knight to make it a 3-1 hockey game. Jason Robertson's late goal brought Dallas back to within one to conclude an eventful first period. Early in the middle frame, Brayden McNabb scored the only goal of the period to put the Golden Knights ahead, 4-2. Despite a goal from Mason Marchment in the final stanza, the Golden Knights held on and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
TOP PERFORMERS
Jack Eichel: Eichel recorded two assists in the win.
Noah Hanifin: Hanifin also collected two helpers in his first playoff game with Vegas.
Tomas Hertl: Hertl recorded the 25th postseason goal of his career.
Jonathan Marchessault: Marchessault picked up where he left off in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs with his first of the postseason.
Mark Stone: Stone scored in his first game since Feb. 20 just 1:23 into Game 1.
