Story of the Day

The Capitals host the Buffalo Sabres tonight at Capital One Arena for their second-to-last home game of the 2025-26 regular season. Tonight marks the third and final meeting between the Capitals and Sabres this season. Washington has earned three out of a possible four points (1-0-1) through the first two games of the season series. Charlie Lindgren stopped 29 of 30 shots faced and Jakob Chychrun scored his seventh game-winning goal of the season in Washington’s 2-1 win over the Sabres on March 12 in Buffalo. The Sabres defeated the Capitals 4-3 in a shootout on Nov. 1 at KeyBank Center. The Capitals enter tonight’s contest on a six-game home point streak (3/9/2026-3/31/2026: 4-0-2) and are 3-1-1 in their last five games against Buffalo at Capital One Arena.

Pierre-Luc Dubois (1g-1a–2p) recorded his second straight multi-point performance on Thursday at New Jersey. In Washington’s previous game, Dubois registered four assists in a 6-4 win over Philadelphia. The 6’4”, 220-pound center has recorded 15 points (5g, 10a) in 18 games since returning to the lineup on Feb. 5. In that 18-game span, Dubois leads the Capitals in assists, points and power-play points (6). Dubois missed 47 consecutive games from Nov. 1 to Feb. 3 due to injury. The Capitals went 22-18-7 (.543 P%) during Dubois’ 47-game absence but are 10-6-2 since his return (.611 P%).
