When the Devils hit the road for its longest road trip of the season, the first stop was in Dallas. New Jersey was looking to snap a five-game losing skid, while the Stars were looking to gain ground in the playoff race. It was a heated battle with the Stars taking a 1-0 lead in the middle frame; however, three unanswered goals by the visiting team helped the Devils sneak away with a 3-1 victory. The game winning goal was Hischier's, with 1:11 left in the third period. The tally was Hischier's 20th of the season, and helped New Jersey kick off a road trip with a strong win.

Going into the Jan. 2 game in Washington, the Devils were looking for its first win against the Capitals since Feb. 2020, and first road win since Jan. 2020. Luckily for New Jersey, Hischier's overtime goal gave the team snapped a losing skid against DC's team. The Capitals were trying to get the puck out of their zone; however, Jack Hughes won a speed battle and got back the puck, found Hischier, who fired it on net. Just like that, with 2:04 left in extra time, the Devils walked away with a win.

Ask any hockey player and they'll say scoring in a rivalry game is always an incredible feeling. Hischier came up big for the Devils, scoring with six minutes left in the opening frame to tie the game at 1. Despite it being the only Devils goal of the contest, it was quite a beautiful one, Hischier picked up the puck in the neutral zone, split the Rangers defense, shot, and scored. Hischier is the type of Captain that likes to lead by example and the forward did just that with this goal.
