The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Jacob Markstrom on a two-year contract worth $12,000,000, with an annual average value of $6,000,000. The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Markstrom, 35, was acquired from the Calgary Flames on June 19, 2024, in exchange for Kevin Bahl and New Jersey’s first-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft (18th overall, used to select Cole Reschny). The 6’6”, 205lbs. goaltender has a 28-18-6 record in the past year-plus with the Devils, with a 2.67 goals-against average and four shutouts in 53 games played. In 2024-25, his goals against average (2.50) and shutout total (4) were the second-best of his career, and his win total (26) was the third highest. He played his 500th career NHL game on November 21, 2024, defeating Carolina, 4-2, at Prudential Center. Markstrom was the 81st goalie in NHL history and the third Swedish-born goalie to reach the milestone. He was named to Team Sweden for the Four Nations tournament but was unable to play due to injury.
