DeSimone did take advantage of it. Recently paired up with Luke Hughes, DeSimone is a defenseman the Devils have turned to with big assignments and playing big minutes.
“He’s playing well,” Green shared on DeSimone. “He’s playing some big minutes right now obviously against top lines. He was out for awhile, didn’t get in the game. When you go from not playing at all for a month and a half to getting thrown right into the fire and playing important minutes, it’s a great opportunity for him and he’s played well doing it.”
Playing for the Devils tomorrow night would be extra special for the defenseman who grew up in East Amherst, 20 miles away from Key Bank Center.
“My early memories are Sabres, and they were good,” DeSimone discussed about watching Buffalo growing up. “Early, mid 2000s, had some great teams, those were my idols growing up … it got me into hockey, as well as my family.
"I haven’t been able to have the chance to play here so if I do play here it’ll be really cool," DeSimone continued. "Obviously it’s cool for me but for my family, all that my parents have done, my brother, my sister, sacrifices they made and things they’ve done to help me. A lot of friends too and mentors and people that have helped me. It’s a lot of names, it’ll be cool for them to experience that."
