Story of the Day

The Capitals fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 (SO) on Thursday at Capital One Arena, snapping their four-game home winning streak. Despite the shootout loss, Washington earned at least one point for the ninth consecutive game (Nov. 24 – Dec. 11: 7-0-2).

The Capitals prepare for a two-game road trip to Winnipeg and Minnesota, where they’ll look to extend their five-game road point streak (4-0-1), which dates back to Nov. 20. Four of the Capitals’ five road games in that stretch have come against teams currently in playoff position, with their only loss coming against Anaheim in the shootout on Dec. 5. Since Nov. 20, Washington has averaged 5.00 goals for on the road and just 2.00 goals against. This season, the Capitals rank second in the NHL in road goals per game (3.57) and tied for second in road goals against per game (2.29). In addition, Washington’s .921 team save percentage on the road ranks second in the NHL (per Natural Stat Trick).
