"I really like your style. When you're on the ice, I can see the game is changing," Cournoyer told Caufield following the shutout loss. "When I was playing, they called me the Roadrunner, but you're a pretty good Roadrunner, too."
That incredible compliment brought a smile to the University of Wisconsin product's face, of course.
To say he was flattered would be an understatement.
"I'm just trying to be like you," replied Caufield. "We love having you here."
Cournoyer, who ranks fourth in franchise history in goals and sixth in points, also talked to the dynamic winger about his mindset when he's struggling to light the lamp.
Caufield was in the midst of a five-game goal drought at the time after scoring in four consecutive contests.
"I don't think you're going to score every night, but keep going and have fun. That's the main thing," stressed Cournoyer. "You're here for a while."
Caufield took that advice to heart, netting five more goals in the final five games of the season - including a hat trick in the finale - to close the campaign with a team-leading 23.
