Weekend Win

Scott Wedgewood stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced to help the Avalanche defeat the Nashville Predators 4-2 at Ball Arena on Saturday and extend its home win streak to 11 games. Nathan MacKinnon, Jack Drury, Victor Olofsson and Valeri Nichushkin each scored for Colorado while Samuel Girard posted two assists.

For an NHL-best ninth time this season, Colorado scored within the game's first 90 seconds.

"We're prepared and ready to go," Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar said about the team scoring early. "Focused, I think. You always want to try and get out to a good start, and at home, I think we're doing a better job of that, scoring anyway. It's guys getting prepared, and they're focused and getting ready to play with some energy and getting some good looks early on in games."

With the win, the Avalanche improved to 23-2-7.

How It Happened

MacKinnon opened the scoring at 1:26 of the first period with his 26th goal of the season via a shot from the high slot off the rush.

While the teams were playing at four-on-four, Drury doubled Colorado's lead with his fifth goal of the season via a shot from the high slot at 11:47 of the first period.

Jonathan Marchessault put Nashville on the board with a power-play goal at 12:37 of the first period via a one-timer from the low slot.

While the Avs had its net empty due to Nashville's delayed penalty, Olofsson gave the Avs a 3-1 lead at 9:57 of the second period with his seventh goal of the season via a shot from the slot after Samuel Girard's set-up feed was deflected towards Colorado's goal-scorer by Nashville forward Michael Bunting's stick.

Nichushkin gave the Avs a 4-1 lead at 16:26 of the third period with his eighth goal of the season via an empty-net tally from the right doorstep.

Tyson Jost scored for Nashville to make it a 4-2 game at 18:57 of the third period with a goal off the rush.
